Starry Night

“For my part I know nothing with any certainly, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.”-Vincent

Our 2nd graders are learning about Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night. I loved sharing with students the mind and brilliance of one of my favorite artists. I began by showing students an animated version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. We talked about movement, repeating lines, swirling clouds, illuminated stars, quick small brush strokes, and vivid colors. I began the second class by having students share what they had learned about Van Gogh. I was so impressed with what students remembered. I can’t wait to show you the beloved Starry Night through my 2nd graders eyes. Click the 2nd Grade tab for a sneak peak! Night comes to life

After learning that Van Gogh only sold one painting during his lifetime, students wanted to know what painting it was. Well here it is, The Red Vineyards near Aries by Vincent Van Gogh. Reminded me of fall in all it’s color and splendor. Enjoy!
